Uploaded photos should be at least 1080 pixels high at 72 dots per inch (DPI), since Animoto videos support full high definition (HD) video (the maximum output of HD is 1920 x 1080 pixels).
Which aspect ratio should I use for photos?
You won't need to worry about aspect ratio for most photos, but our system may need to crop some photos. When this happens, you may want to crop the photo yourself prior to upload, making sure the subject of your photo is in frame.
If you're using a minimalist style that presents your photos in full frame, it's probably best to frame or crop your photos to 16:9 to match the full screen output of HD video.
Here's an example of a photograph of a butterfly to show how it might be cropped when using a video style that uses portrait.
Can I upload images are larger than 1920x1080?
Yes, but keep in mind there's no benefit to uploading larger images and doing so could increase the time it takes to upload your photos to Animoto. If you do upload images that are larger than HD, they'll automatically be resized to fit.
Note: If you have extremely large photos, such as those from professional DSLRs, or high resolution photo scanners, we recommend resizing them first prior to uploading, so that you're satisfied with the clarity and sharpness of your photos.
