Facebook privacy and video sharing FAQ

This page covers answers to a few common questions we receive about sharing Animoto videos to personal Facebook accounts. Have questions that aren’t covered below? Just reach out to our customer success team for help.

Who can see videos I share to Facebook?

When you share a video for the first time, Facebook will ask you to authorize Animoto to post on your behalf -- this will give us permission to post your videos to your Facebook when you use the share tools in your Animoto account. You’ll also be asked who on Facebook you’d like to share your videos with.

Here’s a brief description of the share options:

  • Public.  Your video will be viewable to anyone on Facebook.
  • Friends. Only your Facebook friends will be able to view your video.
  • Friends of friends. Your Facebook friends, and friends of your friends will be able to see and view your video.
  • Only Me. Your video will be shared to your Facebook timeline, but it will only be viewable to you.
  • Custom. Choose a default list, specific person/group of people, or exclude certain Facebook users from viewing your video.
  • Lists. These are custom lists you create in Facebook. Examples of lists could be "friends from school", or "immediate family".

Is it possible that my video could be viewed by Facebook users I am not connected to?

If you share an Animoto video to your friends only, but tag a friend in the video, Facebook will include your video on your friend's timeline, which means it could be viewed by your friend's Facebook friends.

How can I change who can see my video?

You can change who can see your posts at any time. To do this, look for the date/time stamp on your shared video directly on your Facebook timeline. Right next to that will be your sharing options.

If it's public, you'll see a mini globe. If you have it shared with friends only, you'll see a silhouette of two people. Click the arrow next to the icon to change who can see that specific video.

When I set up Animoto with Facebook, I chose "Public." How can I change this?

You can change the default posting options for Animoto videos by adjusting your Facebook settings for the Animoto application. Find Animoto in the “Logged in with Facebook” list from your Facebook settings and click the pencil icon. Under “App visibility and post audience" change the setting to your preferred default audience.

How can I post to my business Facebook Page?

We only allow for one Facebook account to be linked at a time to your Animoto account, but if your personal and professional accounts share the same log-in information then you can you can alternate between the two at the top of the Facebook share feature.

How can I share my video if I receive a “Facebook account is connected to another user” error message?

There are two reasons you might be seeing a “connected to another user” error message when sharing to Facebook:

  1. You already have a Facebook account connected to your Animoto account. To clear this up, remove the current connection to Facebook in your account by going to the Settings tab on your Account page (https://animoto.com/account) and clicking the "X" next to Facebook.
  2. There is another Animoto account that is linked to the Facebook account you are hoping to share to. Try logging into Animoto with any alternate email address to see if you have multiple Animoto accounts. If you need help locating the other account, please reach out to our Customer Success team. One of our advisors will be happy to help locate and disconnect that account for you.

This is so frustrating, it says my Facebook account is connected to another user even after I unlinked it countless times. So hard to share.
I linked my account to my A Facebook account and worked flawlessly at the first time, then I wanted to share it with my B Facebook account. So I unlinked everything, then now it always prompts me that my B Facebook account is linked to another user. HELP!

I am trying to upload my video to Facebook but have an error message 'Unfortunately we couldn't post the video you uploaded. There's nothing to worry about – it's because the video contains music, audio or a video clip that belongs to someone else.'
You may be able to post the video if you have the rights, otherwise you can delete the video. The music is from Animoto -"Butterfly Driving a Truck" by Caspar Babypants. Do I have the rights to publish?

For those of you who are getting the "Facebook is linked to another profile" message, here's what I did to fix it. I logged out of my Animoto Account. Then went to log back in but used the login with Facebook option. It asked for my email address, which I used the one associated with my account, and then it logged me back in. Once it logged me back in then I was able to use the upload to Facebook Link. Hope this helps!

To post to your business page, choose the tab "pages" instead of "timeline".  Hope that helps.

I am having the same problem, it would appear because I have my Animoto account registered under my business email address when I try to send my video to my Facebook Business Page Animoto tries to link into my personal Facebook detail which has my personal email address registered. This will be because my Facebook Business Page is managed by my personal Facebook profile.

I have lodged a support request with Animoto so will see what response I get back, I'll repost here if I find a solution

The first time I posted, it was inadvertently posted to my husband's fb page, but I would like it to be posted to my fb page. I cannot unlink his fb page from the account. Why is this not an option? From reading the comments, I have tried posting by going to the pages tab but it will not allow me to. I also tried signing out and signing back in using the fb sign in but it say my account is linked to another profile and will not allow that either. I do not understand why Animoto has not responded to this thread with a resolution.

    Hi Kristen,

This is the response I received from Animoto, (it worked), not sure if will help you but here goes.

    Good luck

    Di,

    Thanks for reaching out!

Currently, you are only able to link your Animoto account with one Facebook account at a time. It looks like you already have an Animoto account associated with xxxxx@xxxx.com.au and it is linked to Facebook. No worries though you can easily disconnect that. To do so you can log into that xxxxx@xxxx.com.au Animoto account, go to Settings, scroll down to Connected Services, click the 'X' next to Facebook, and hit save. Then when you log into your other Animoto account (yyyyy@yyyyy.com.au and share your video you will be prompted to log into Facebook. Just use the log in information associated with your Facebook Business page.

If you have any questions along the way please don't hesitate to let me know.

I shared the video on my facebook page but at the end of the video I did not see the button linked to the url of my blog. The button is only visible if I watch the video from the Animoto page. How do I do it?
