Adding voice-over to videos

Voice-over can be recorded directly over each block of your project. To record your voice-over, follow these easy steps.

Recording voice-over

Hover your mouse over a block and click the microphone icon. Click and hold the record button to begin recording. (If it's your first time recording voice-over, your browser may ask you for permission to access your computer's microphone. You'll need to accept it for voice-over to work.)

You’ll see the timer increase as you begin recording. When recording your voice-over, keep in mind that it will set the length of each block you are recording over. If you record 5 seconds of voice-over over a photo block, the photo will show for 5 seconds in your video, as a result. For video blocks, voice-over can only be recorded up to the length of the video clip.

Press the play button to preview your voice-over. Not happy with it? Click the trashcan icon to delete and start again. Don’t worry if you didn’t get it on the first try. You can do as many takes as needed to get it right. To re-record, just click and hold the record button again.

How to improve the quality of your voice-over

To get the best quality for your voice-over, we recommend using a microphone. If you’d like to purchase a microphone, it doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Even using the microphone on your headphones can achieve great results.

If using the built-in microphone on your laptop, you’ll get the best quality if you record in a quiet area, since built-in mics are designed to pick up everything around them and they can cause a lot of echo.

What if I already have a pre-recorded voice-over?

The easiest way to add voice-over to your project is to record it per block directly. But in some cases, you might already have a pre-recorded voice-over. What do you do then? You can upload your pre-recorded voice-over file directly to your project as a song by following these steps:

  1. Click on the music icon on the left side of the media tray
  2. Click the CHANGE SONG button
  3. Click UPLOAD SONG and select the voice-over file from your computer

If you want music to play with your voice-over, before uploading you’ll need to add a soundtrack to the same track as your pre-recorded voice-over.
