Animoto subscribers have the right to use copyrighted material from our library in their videos. Most social media platforms do automated scans for copyrighted material, so you may receive a notification that your video contains a copyright violation by mistake. If that happens, you can dispute the violation on the platform to let the copyright holder know you have the rights to use it. If your dispute is rejected, reach out to the Animoto team with the URL of where the video was posted, a link to your video on the Animoto platform, and a screenshot of the copyright notice or claimant info in the notice you received. We know that getting a copyright strike can be alarming, but don’t worry!
As an Animoto subscriber, if you are using music from our song library, you have permission to share your videos publicly!
There are two common types of notifications, ones that remove your video from being posted to a social media channel at all, and ones that simply layer ads on top of your videos. You can dispute both, in the exact same way.
Note: The steps below apply to music used from the Animoto music library. When using music that is not from the Animoto library the copyright licensing can vary so be sure to check that you have the right permissions to share it and use it publicly!
Why did I get a copyright strike if I have the rights to use it on social media?
Most social media platforms use an automated system to scan for copyrighted material. If your content is identified as having a copyright elsewhere, you may receive a notification that your posted content is in violation by mistake, even if you have the rights to use it. Most platforms have a process for disputing a copyright claim which alerts the copyright holder that you have the rights to use it.
What do I do if my video receives a copyright strike?
If you receive a copyright notification, we encourage you to first dispute it. We’ve attached the claim forms for the most common social media platforms.

2. Link to the flagged Animoto video on your My Projects Page
3. Screenshot or copy of the copyright notice or the claimant info in the notice you received
